Client: Part-Time Working Mother of twins
Problem:
Our Client received our services as a gift through a relative. As
a mother of twins, her day was completely scheduled with little time left
for organizing. She wanted to use her finished attic for purposes other
than long term storage. The storage currently located in the attic wasn’t
sorted, organized, or being stored in the appropriate storage containers.
This made it difficult to find and relocate items in the attic which created
a barrier in exploring opportunities the space could provide
What We Did:
- In a circular fashion we went from section to section of the attic and discarded obsolete, damaged, or broken items. Additionally, items that no longer interested her, such as journals, prints, and various memorabilia were discarded.
- " The Client made a selection of toys and clothing for donation to make these two categories more manageable to store.
- The attic was segregated into areas for the following activities: sewing, gift wrapping, and a play area for supervising children. Additional areas were created to accommodate overnight guest and store less frequently used furniture and fixtures.
- The Client's own colored storage containers were repackaged so that one color was used to store blankets, towels, and linens and another color was used to store off season wardrobe.
- Approximately 25 clear storage containers of various sizes
were labeled and used to store the following long term/off
season storage:
- Holiday Items
- Toys and cloths for children to grow into
- Photos
- Unused photo albums and pictures frames
- Decorative accessories to be rotated throughout the year
- Vintage LP’s
- 7. Family memorabilia
Result:
Organizing the attic’s long term storage allowed the Client to gain space for her sewing hobby that she had wanted to resume. The play area allowed her to supervise her children while she spent time in the new space. Additionally, the reconfigured space allowed her to accommodate overnight guests.
Lastingly, she could easily access and identify her long term storage.
This allowed her to know what she had if she needed to make any future
decisions concerning her storage needs.
